Nonis getting desprate for defensemen?
Vancouver Canucks defensemen Sami Salo and Matias Ohlund have both fallen to injury during Olympic play, which will worsen the Canucks' blue-line situation, with Ed Jovanovski already sidelined. Vancouver general manager Dave Nonis may now look at adding a few defenseman on deadline day, depending of course on the extent of the injuries. Targets are Anaheim's Keith Carney, Chicago's Jassen Cullimore, St. Louis' Eric Weinrich, and Columbus' Luke Richardson. Also, with the possibility of Phoenix re-building again, they may look at Derek Morris. Phoenix is looking for young players and draft picks, and the price may be Ryan Kesler. It has been said in the past that Kesler won't be moved, but Nonis could never have seen his defense unit in such bad shape come deadline day. Other possibilities now to be mentioned include Minnesota's Andrei Zyuzin and Filip Kuba.

Tkachuk may waive no-trade clause on deadline day
With Keith Tkachuk attracting interest from the likes of the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers, he may choose to waive his no-trade clause with the St. Louis Blues. Tkachuk is an attractive option for any playoff-bound team, and according to Ottawa and Philadelphia sources, both teams are very interested. Tkachuk would love to move to one of the two, as both are teams are very much in contention for the Stanley Cup. Once again, Flyers general manager Bobby Clarke would have to move a player to bring in Tkachuk, and defenseman Mike Rathje has been rumoured to be that player. John Muckler’s Ottawa Senators were very much in the Doug Weight sweepstakes, and ended up losing out to the first overall team, the Carolina Hurricanes. Apparently, Muckler is still in the hunt for a top forward. However, it’s more likely Muckler moves for a centerman, which may mean he isn’t as interested.

I drool at tkachuk.

Unfortunately, I may be hearing that they may have to spend the money on a goalie with hasek's situation....

I don't see a need for it to be a centreman...

any strong, power forward would really help the team.

Hopefully the Ohlund situation isn;t too bad...

I'm not sure if Salo situation is anything big...

But Morris would be great. He is a great defenseman for the quicker game. I like the two minnesota options too.

Well, it depends on the seriousness of the injury of course.. but if I were to pick two which I believe Nonis will be after...

It will be veterans like Weinrich and Carney.
