Rumours and Updates: 2/2

4:00 PM ET RUMOURS AND UPDATES:

Where will Owen Nolan end up?

The legal battle between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Owen Nolan's end is in sight, and it is now bringing upon the question: Where is he headed? Right now it can be said there is the highest level of interest is out of where Nolan spent 8 years of his career before being dealt to the Leafs, the San Jose Sharks. The Calgary Flames have also been mentioned over the course of the past few weeks, and NTR is learning that the Ottawa Senators might be in the running. His return will come after the Olympic break if all goes as expected. ALSO important to note that there have been previous rumours that Nolan has already agreed to an unofficial contract with San Jose, and that he will not play anywhere else. From the sounds of it, it is pretty safe to say that Owen Nolan will end up with the Sharks, likely taking a paycut to be there.

On: Vancouver to add D?
As we reported earlier here at NTR, the Canucks are looking for defensive depth. Reported first here on NTR, other sources and rumour sites are beginning to pick this story up. It could involve Keith Carney of the Ducks, Brendan Witt of the Capitals, or possibly Ric Jackman of the Pens, who has demanded a trade. The St. Louis Blues are still looking to dump of salary, and may do so with defenseman Eric Weinrich.

MORE RUMOURS AND UPDATES:

On: The Jokinen Situation
Olli Jokinen has rejected the 4 yr, 16 million dollar offer from the Florida Panthers. Calgary's move which sent out centreman Steven Reinprecht is opening up the space for Jokinen, as they will make a strong attempt to acquire him. Ottawa still in the bidding.

Lalime Clears Waivers
Patrick Lalime has had no takers, which has stuck St. Louis between a rock and a hard place. No one is willing to pick up even half of his salary, so it looks like St. Louis is stuck with him, unless of course they will take on salary, which is far from their latest intentions (dealing off Weight, Sillinger).

On: The Leafs Situation
John Ferguson is still seeking a defenseman, and Allison continues to be mentioned. As I mentioned a few days ago, Ric Jackman is a possibility, and is being mentioned more by different sources. Brendan Witt had requested a trade back at the beginning of the season, and rumours between the Leafs and Witt have been consistent for a few years now. Another name to mention is Keith Carney, veteran Mighty Duck defenseman. Brian Burke has been interested in moving him, and there are reports of interest in Allison out of Anaheim.

RUMOURS:

Canucks to make their goaltender move?
It's been a consistent rumour over the past few years that the Vancouver Canucks will finally make their move for a sure, number one goaltender. Rumours have gotten as ridiculous as Roberto Luongo. However with Dan Cloutier's current injury situation, and his subpar performances in the post-season, the Canucks may finally make their move. A Vancouver newspaper is currently the only one reporting, so I am not looking very far into this, but they have Coyotes netminder Curtis Joseph as their target. Other light rumours from a few different sources include Evgeni Nabokov, and Olaf Kolzig. San Jose has an overload of talented goaltenders and would be willing to move one to be able to improve their squad in a few different areas. It also should be noted that both Vesa Toskala and Evgeni Nabokov become UFA's at season's end.

Anaheim to make playoff push?

Brian Burke is looking to add a few players in order to make a stronger push for the post-season. At this time, it appears that teams are mainly interested in their up-and-comers, such as Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. One other name being mentioned is veteran defenseman Keith Carney, however with Neidermayer's current injury situation, Carney may still be needed.

INTERESTING TID-BITS:

-According to Raleigh News, Doug Weight would love to return to St. Louis come summer time, when he becomes a UFA.
-According to Vancouver Province, the Canucks may be interested in a temporary replacement for Jovanovski.
