Rumours and Updates: 2/26

On: Clarke looking to add offense
General manager Bobby Clarke's need for offense has become even greater. Previous rumours had Clarke sparing a defenseman (possibly Mike Rathje), to add some offense. Now, with the news of Simon Gagne's injury that will sideline the Flyers top scorer for at least 2 weeks, Clarke has become more intent on adding a forward or two. Rumours that Clarke's interest mostly lies with Pittsburgh's Mark Reechi, who according to a source in Pennsylvania will "most definitely be with a new team on March 10th." Also, another forward to mention would be the New York Islanders forward Mark Parrish.

Barnett would move Derek Morris, Mike Johnson
A source in the Arizona area reports that GM Mike Barnett would move defenseman Derek Morris. There has been lots of interest in the 27-year-old, teams mentioned are Vancouver, Detroit, and Tampa Bay. Vancouver's blueline has been hit by the injury bug, with Matias Ohlund, Sami Salo, and Ed Jovanovski all sidelined. It's looking likely that forward Mike Johnson will also be moved. If the Senators have to add goaltending, it's rumoured that general manager John Muckler would look at Johnson. Also, there are whispers that Barnett may move defenseman Paul Mara. There are rumours, currently more speculative than anything, that Nonis may try to swing a deal which would bring both of them to Vancouver. However, the Canucks would have to open the cap room, as they are currently sitting at a little over $38 million.

Kings' Demitra Okay
The rumour of a Los Angeles Kings' forward Pavol Demitra's terrible face injury is overblown. Demitra has injured tissue around his eye it is believed, and will not miss much more than a week and a half.

I loved Mike Johnson when I could see him play with the Leafs.

looking at his point totals he is still quite a player.

Really.

Hmmmm. I really like Morris, I think he is in the top 15 defenseman in the league.

Mara is a great young defenseman as well, but I wouldnt know how to open up the cap space. maybe its time for bert to go?

maybe philly has some interest with gagne's injury (in johnson).

if i were muckler, johnson is a solid offensive guy to add if you want to add goaltending as well.

If the coyotes want to re-build, dont get rid of a really good and young defenseman in Mara. I understand its the rumour of late, but I don't understand why barnett wants to do it.

I don't knnow why there is no interest from the Leafs in either of Mara or Morris.

Or perhaps there is?

There should be.

I'm not sure clarke will act on an injury thats only two weeks.

But, we've been playing poor as of late, and we don't want to keep dropping games in the next 2-3 weeks, because we'll end up with a tough opponent in the playoffs. So I suppose it would be a good idea.

As a follower of both pennsylvanian teams (pittsburgh and philly), it would be quite interesting to see Reechi go to Philly. I am very sure it would have a positive impact on philly.
